Rental Terms and Conditions
General
IMPORTANT: Please read the following terms carefully for your prepaid reservation. Cancellation and no-show charges may reduce refunds for prepaid bookings. Once the vehicle is rented, there are no refunds or credits for unused rental days.
Prepayment rules
Cancellation and Missed Reservation Policy
Cancelling within 24 hours prior to the scheduled pickup time. You will receive a refund of your prepaid amount, minus a $100.00 cancellation fee. If your prepaid amount is less than $100.00, no refund will be issued. Cancelling up to 24 hours prior to scheduled pickup time. You will receive a refund of your prepaid amount, minus a $50.00 cancellation fee. No show, or failure to meet the rental requirements. No refund will be issued. If the rental is picked up later, or returned early or if reservation length is shortened or reduced. No refund will be issued for unused time. A refund request for a cancelled reservation or denied rental must be made at reserve@budget.co.cr or by calling 506 2436-2000 8:00 AM–5:30 PM Mon–Fri; Local Time. Refund requests require providing the credit card number and expiration date, and refunds cannot be given at the counter. Refunds are credited back to your card within 5 to 10 business days.
Required Credentials
At the time of rental pick-up, you must present a valid credit card in your name. For credit cards issued in Costa Rica, a gold, platinum, or higher credit card is required. The rental location’s qualification rules apply. The name on all rental credentials (e.g., driver’s license and hold card) must match the name on the reservation. If the names do not match, for security reasons the prepaid reservation must be canceled and a new reservation made at current rates; a $50.00 USD processing fee will apply. At pick-up, all drivers must present a valid driver’s license in their name. For rentals in CRC, if the driver’s license is not from Costa Rica, the renter must present a valid passport. If the country of residence on the renter’s credentials does not match the country indicated in the reservation, the rental rate will change. At pick-up, the renter must present a valid credit card in the renter’s name; a prepaid credit card is not an acceptable credential and cards without embossed numbers are not accepted. When using certain offer codes, you must provide association, corporate, or government credentials to demonstrate eligibility for the special rate or benefit. Please keep your reservation confirmation number as it is required for modification, cancellation, or refund requests. Once the scheduled pick-up time has passed, reservation changes cannot be made online.
Additional Fees and Credit Holds
The card presented for the hold at rental pickup is the rental record card. Before Budget releases the vehicle to you, all rental terms and conditions must be met, regardless of your prepaid payment method. Always report accidents immediately after they occur. Follow all instructions given on behalf of the insurance company. Always remain at the scene of the accident unless your health is at risk.
Please remember that failure to follow these instructions may reduce or eliminate the insurance company’s risk coverage; therefore, the driver is responsible for all damages caused to third parties. We hope you drive safely and continue to enjoy your journey.
Security Deposits — International Credit Cards
For all vehicle categories, if no coverage is purchased, the security deposit is $3,000. With minimum SLI coverage, the deposit is $1,000. With basic PDW coverage with deductible, the deposit is $1,000. With basic LDW coverage, the deposit is $750. With SLI plus PDW (Basic Plus), the deposit is $500. With SLI plus LDW (Standard), the deposit is $500. With SLI plus LDW plus PAE plus WTC (Full), the deposit is $300.
Security Deposits — Credit Cards Issued in Costa Rica
For gold or higher credit cards applicable to other vehicle categories, if there is no coverage, no deposit applies (N/A). With SLI plus PDW (Basic Plus), the deposit is $1,500. With SLI plus LDW (Standard), the deposit is $1,000. With SLI plus LDW plus PAE plus WTC (Full), the deposit is $750.
For platinum, black, or higher credit cards applicable to Prado and Hilux vehicles, if there is no coverage, no deposit applies (N/A). With SLI plus PDW (Basic Plus), the deposit is $3,000. With SLI plus LDW (Standard), the deposit is $1,500. With SLI plus LDW plus PAE plus WTC (Full), the deposit is $1,250.

Right to Information
In accordance with the provisions of the Law for the Protection of Individuals Regarding the Processing of Their Personal Data, No. 8968 of Costa Rica (hereinafter, the Personal Data Law), Centriz de Costa Rica S.A., owner of the website Budget.co.cr (hereinafter, Budget), informs users of this site of the existence of an automated personal data database created by and under the responsibility of Budget. Budget fully complies with current legislation on personal data protection and guarantees the confidentiality of the information provided by users.
Purpose
The data requested through the various forms on the website is intended to provide services to the user in the best possible manner and is essential to ensure their quality. These services include, among others, searching the company’s database, contacting the user to report important information, identifying potential commercial customers, and facilitating contact between interested parties.
Accuracy of User-Provided Information
The data requested through the website is appropriate, relevant, and not excessive in relation to the services offered by Budget. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are mandatory and must be completed to process the request voluntarily submitted by the user. The user is responsible for providing accurate information and keeping it up to date.
User Consent
The user authorizes the automated processing of personal data for the provision of requested services. By voluntarily completing any form on Budget.co.cr, the user also agrees to receive information from third parties when related to contact requests or information that is not the direct responsibility of Budget.
Electronic Newsletter and Communications
Budget offers an email newsletter service to inform users about site updates, news, promotions, and other communications requested by the user. Users may unsubscribe at any time and update their contact information whenever necessary.
Data Security
Budget maintains the required security levels for the protection of personal data in accordance with applicable regulations. However, Internet security measures are not infallible. Budget is committed to fulfilling its duty of confidentiality and secrecy regarding personal data stored in its systems, in accordance with applicable law.
Cookies and Data Use
The user consents to the use of cookies, which do not allow personal identification and only facilitate navigation on the website. Users may refuse their use by adjusting their browser settings. Budget processes only the data that users provide through electronic forms on Budget.co.cr or via email. For questions, inquiries, or suggestions, users may contact Budget through the website’s contact form or by calling 2436-2000.
Rights of Access, Correction, and Cancellation
Users may exercise their rights to access, modify, and cancel their personal data through the contact section on Budget.co.cr, by calling 2436-2000, or by emailing reserve@budget.co.cr.
Modifications to the Privacy Policy
Budget reserves the right to modify this privacy policy when deemed necessary to adapt to regulatory changes or service improvements. Any modifications will be duly communicated to users.
Applicable Law
This privacy policy and all other Budget legal terms are governed entirely by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica.
Early Vehicle Returns with Prepaid Rentals
Customers may modify their reservation at no cost up to 48 hours prior to the rental start date by contacting Customer Service at reserve@budget.co.cr or the call center at +506 2436-2000. Early returns and modifications made outside the permitted timeframe (less than 48 hours prior to pickup) are non-refundable.
