1. Minimum Coverage (MP)
Includes SLI coverage provided by third-party insurance with liability coverage estimated at $1,000,000. No deductibles or violation charges apply.
The daily cost of this coverage is $ 19,99 per day.
SLI is not mandatory, but if declined, the renter will be responsible for all damages caused to third parties (individuals, vehicles, and property) collectively.
2. Basic Protection (BPP)
Includes LDW coverage, which covers the rental vehicle with no deductible in case of an accident, including theft. It does not cover rollovers or accessories. A police report, insurance company report, and personal statement to the court are required.

3. Credit Card Protection Package (CCPP)
The CCPP includes personal assistance in the event of an accident or medical emergencies (PAE). If you accept the optional Personal Protection Equipment (PAE), you would be protected from accidental injury or death up to an approximate amount of $9,000 per event. By purchasing this coverage, you will also be protected for additional accessories including windshields, tires, glass, and vandalism. Insurance company report and police report will be required in case of vandalism.
The daily cost of this coverage is $23.94 per day.
4. Standard Protection Package (SPP)

6. Accidents and Personal Effects Protection (PAE). Don’t worry about a thing.
If you accept the optional Personal Protection Equipment (PAE), you will be protected against accidental injuries or death up to an approximate amount of $9,000 per event. By purchasing this coverage, you will also be protected for additional accessories, including windshields, tires, glass, and vandalism. An insurance company report and a police report will be required in the case of vandalism.
Please note that in the event of an accident or drunk driving, the insurance benefit is excluded.
NOTE: Drivers with Costa Rican licenses cannot decline the insurance.
If any coverage needs to be applied, the renter must provide:
- Qualitas Part (Insurance Company)
- Sketch or document issued by the insurer at the scene of the event
- Respective statement to the traffic court
Documents required for the implementation of theft coverage:
Any other damage whose value is less than the deductible is the responsibility of the lessee. In case of theft, the renter must provide the following:
- The report filed with the OIJ (Judicial Investigation Office) or with the competent authority in the case of theft
- Copy of a valid ID or passport.
- Copy of the current driver’s license.
NOTE: Any other damage considered negligence on the part of the customer, such as crossing a river, driving in the sea, using the vehicle for racing, or similar activities, is the sole responsibility of the customer and is not covered by any insurance.
Yes, it applies a fee of 13% of the total rental amount for Juan Santamaría Airport, Tambor Airport, and Quepos Airport, and 14% for the Daniel Oduber Airport office in Liberia
The additional driver fee is $5 per day, per driver.
There is a fee of $10 for each contract extension during the low season*. For high season**, the fee for each contract extension will depend on the rate.
* Low season is from January 7th to March 31st, June, September, October.
** High season is from December 16th to January 6th, Holy Week, and from July 15th to August 15th.
Under normal circumstances, if we have availability, we can deliver and pick up rented vehicles at your hotel. For hotels located near our offices, there is no additional charge for vehicle delivery or pickup.
A Drop-Off fee will be charged when the vehicle is picked up and returned in different locations. The amount is subject to availability, distance, and season.
The minimum age required to rent a vehicle is 25 years old, and the maximum age is 75 years old. The cost is $12 per day in both seasons.
No. Nobody, except the person named on the card, can use that credit card for the deposit. The cardholder must be present at the time of rental and must sign the rental contract.
Any card used for rental and deposit must have embossed information.
The deposit credit card amount depends on the coverage chosen.
After clearing customs, you will find a Budget representative at our counter, who will assist you with your luggage and escort you to the exterior of the airport, where you can take our complimentary transportation. The shuttle service will take you to our office, which is less than 1 km from the airport terminal, where you can pick up and return the rented vehicle.
You cannot drive in rivers, beaches, estuaries, or in violation of traffic laws and regulations, nor on roads, terrains, or paths that may cause damage. In all of these cases, the renter will be responsible for covering all damages to the vehicle personally, even if they had accepted any coverage for the rental vehicle because, in the described circumstances, the coverage does not apply. Using the vehicle under these conditions authorizes Centriz to terminate this agreement without prejudice to charging for the corresponding damages.
Yes. When driving on Highway 27, you can use the Quick Pass lane without stopping.
The Quick Pass has a cost of $12 per day for the customer to use as needed.
According to Costa Rica’s new traffic law. In the event of any traffic violation during the rental period, you must pay the fine at any state bank (National Bank, Banco de Costa Rica, Banco Popular). You can also make the payment at any of our offices by presenting the ticket stub. Otherwise, a travel restriction will be imposed, and you will not be allowed to leave the country because the Immigration Department will strictly check your status.
No, Budget does not accept credit cards without raised numbers; the customer must show the document.
Budget accepts credit cards such as American Express, Mastercard, Visa, Diners Club, and Discover Card.
If you arrive one hour late for your reservation, the availability may depend on high-season inventory.
Only if your reservation is prepaid, we will keep your vehicle reserved for up to 5 hours.
There is a $100 fine in addition to the rental amount if you keep or extend your rental vehicle beyond the return contract.
This $100 fee applies if the customer does not call to extend the rental with 24 hours notice. Starting from December 15th to April 22nd.
For reservations for periods exceeding 30 days, a special rate applies. This rate is only applicable for periods longer than 30 days. In the event of an early return before the date specified in the contract, the regular seasonal rate will apply.
The fuel cost is not included in Budget Car Rental rates. Budget Car Rental provides cars with a full tank of fuel. If, for any reason, the customer cannot return the vehicle in the same condition, the company will charge the corresponding amount for the consumed fuel plus an additional fee as a penalty.
For the convenience of the customer, Budget Car Rental also offers the option to prepay for the fuel tank and return the vehicle with an empty tank, so the customer doesn’t have to worry about stopping at a gas station. This option is more cost-effective than the market price. The prepaid fuel amount is included in the opening contract and is non-refundable.
